 | | | | Wed 19th November 2008 at 11:46 | Brrr! Definitely a "hot chocolate" kind of morning! We are working on getting this cold weather out of here before our UK friends begin arriving on Monday.
John and I have a meeting out at Disney this morning. We will have to bundle up as we will be spending some time outside . . . in the cold.
Sing Live Orlando is now officially ready for Candlelight! We had the final rehearsal last night. They sound great and are ready for the big stage. It won't be long now. Only 10 days! |
| | | | | | Tue 18th November 2008 at 12:02 | So, I've been given a reprieve from Candlelight rehearsal today. They need me to go out to the American Adventure and sing. I think I was successful in my attempt to seem disappointed about missing the last SEVEN hours of rehearsal.
Oh wait, this isn't the last one. We have two other rehearsals next week when we go in late at night and stay until the wee hours of the morning - when the park is closed, and there are no guests around and we do the dress rehearsals. Monday night is the tech rehearsal (for which they need singers) and Tuesday night is the full runs. We'll do it five times in all so that all the guest conductors get a chance at it. It's fun to be out there in the cold drinking hot chocolate while the orchestra tunes their instruments - which is difficult for the woodwinds, depending on just how cold it is! And nothing really can compare to the final run - standing for an hour singing at 3:00 a.m.! Joking aside, it is something we look forward to as it means the Christmas Season has officially began at EPCOT and for the Voices of Liberty.
Kevin had an uneventful flight home last night from his singing gig in New York. The trip up on Friday wasn't quite so smooth. The plane experienced some kind of technical difficulties as they were flying over Maryland and had to turn around and head back to Atlanta. Why all the way back to Atlanta, you ask? Because that's the airport that had the longest runways. And when they got over Atlanta, they flew around for an hour to burn off fuel . . . just in case! They were asked to get into the "brace position" for the landing. They did land safely and were transferred to another plane. Kevin said he was glad I wasn't in the seat next to him as I tend to grab his arm when I'm scared and I have been known to dig my nails in - just a little bit - and he was pretty sure his arm would have been in shreds after this incident!

| | | | | | Mon 17th November 2008 at 13:13 | The weekend is over and so it's back to Disney for rehearsals for me - two more days.
Saturday evening, the "cruisers" had a lovely get-to-know-you-better party. We had lots of laughs, mostly brought on by the "language barrier" between English and American. John was telling a great story about cruise ships and gun boats, and someone thought he was saying "gum balls" and that led to all of us picturing gumballs rolling about on the deck of the ship! So, if you hear us call anyone by the nickname of "Gumball" (which we will, I can assure you!) you'll know who it was that caused all the fun!
Actually, John is quite excited about the cruise because the Americans will be outnumbered by the Brits - so he won't be quite so alone in his Englishness. Oh, and next time you see John, have him say the word "Tortoise" for you. Apparently, we Americans don't say it correctly. It should be pronounced, according to John, just the way it looks (imagine that!), but I really can't explain it here in writing - it's something you'll have to hear for yourself to believe! (FYI, John - the phonetic pronunciation in our dictionary is tor'tis - do you care to respond with your dictionary's pronunciation? I'll be glad to post it here tomorrow!)

| | | | | | Fri 14th November 2008 at 12:08 | Sorry for the short blog yesterday. Even my own mother scolded me for that one!
I'm at Disney again today continuing the Candlelight rehearsals. Kevin is flying out on a Disney trip with the Dapper Dans to spend four days singing in Rochester, NY. Now that sounds like some excitement for sure! Honestly, how many of you would have Rochester on the top of your "places to visit" list? But he will enjoy some cold weather and snow is predicted for Monday. Oh great - just in time for the flight home. (Long time blog readers might remember that he got snowed into Ohio back in March.)
For those of you singing in Candlelight this year, our rehearsal location has been changed for Tuesday night, November 18. We will be rehearsing at St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Apopka-Vineland Road. I will be emailing specific directions to you over the weekend. This is the last Candlelight rehearsal we have before our performance at EPCOT on the 29th. I can't believe it's almost here!

| | | | | | Thu 13th November 2008 at 12:31 | | I will be out at Disney today for my own Candlelight rehearsals with the Voices of Liberty. You'd think after all these years I would know it by now! |
