How it all started - a message from the Founders - John Morris and Linda Metcalfe.

Ten years ago, as a result of attending a personal development course in New Orleans, John made a life changing decision to ‘bring the joy of singing’ to as many people as possible. The concept of Sing Live was born and we decided to live the ‘American Dream’ – but in England! Since then a massive family community of thousands of people, with one simple thing in common – the joy of singing has grown in the UK. We now have eight Sing Live communities based in major cities throughout England and Northern Ireland. At home we have a team of ten full time employees who work constantly to ensure the Sing Live experience is one to be enjoyed and cherished by each of our singers. Without their hard work and dedication over the years Sing Live USA would not have happened. We thank them all from the bottom of our hearts.

As a result of our association with the Candlelight Processional performed annually at EPCOT, Walt Disney World , Florida,  (which Sing Live UK has been proud to be part of for over the past four years) and the constant requests to open a Sing Live community  in Orlando, Florida, we decided to do just that. And are we glad we did! The concept of bringing the joy of singing to the people and our company saying of ‘ordinary people doing extraordinary things in exciting place’ is now truly transatlantic. On April 22, 2007 we staged our very first Sing Live concert in America, at the Bob Carr Centre for Performing Arts in Orlando. The enthusiasm, love and dedication of our 171 singers who took part made us extremely proud to promote our simple but often life changing concept here. We have had incredible fun in developing this company and the fantastic support and affection shown to us, particularly to John, who has flown the ‘pond’ many times over the past year in creating this company, has been very humbling.

The evening was a tribute to the skill, courage and talent of ordinary people from Central Florida who made an important decision: they wanted to sing, but on the big stage.  This is the essence of Sing Live. Our singers undergo a three month professional training program to prepare for the big performance.

In the first Sing Live USA Company based in Orlando, Florida we have people of all ages (aged 18 up!) and experience, all abilities, and now all cultures. People from Canada, Brazil, and Sweden and literally all over the USA who are now living here in Central Florida, and we must not forget our native Floridians! To each and every one of them we say a huge ‘thank you’ for making our English version of the American Dream come true – and come home to the country where it was visualized!

We are now starting to expand our company to other cities in Florida – and eventually other states – watch out for a Sing Live USA company opening in your City.
